FusionExcel Sponsors RM 190,000 Towards Rotary Club's A Climb Beyond Disabilities

FusionExcel is pleased to sponsor RM 190,000 (comprising of Quantum Science products) towards "A Climb Beyond Disabilities", the fundraising climb scheduled for 13th to 17th October 2011 which is a joint project by the Rotary Club of Bandar Utama and Rotary Club of USJ.

Amongst the VIPs who attended the Press Conference on 21st July 2011 at One World Hotel in Petaling Jaya was Guest of Honor & Royal Patron Yang Teramat Mulia Dato’ Seri Tunku Annuar Alhaj Ibni Almarhum Sultan Badishah, Tunku Bendahara Kedah and the former Tourism Minister Tan Sri Abdul Kadir Sheikh Fadzir.

FusionExcel was represented by Founder Director Mr. K.S.Lee, Event Manager Mr. Patrick Chan, FE "Hope For Children" Ambassador and MMW 2011 Advisor Ms Maggie Loo, Miss World Malaysia 2009 Ms Thanuja Ananthan, Miss World Malaysia 2010 Ms Nadia Heng, MMW 2011 Organising Committee Mr. Lim Nam Aik and Director Leader SP Wong.

FusionExcel presented a Special Gift to Royal Patron Yang Teramat Mulia Dato’ Seri Tunku Annuar Alhaj Ibni Almarhum Sultan Badishah through Datuk Jimmy Lim the "Climb Beyond Disabilities" organising Chairman.

Datuk Jimmy Lim said the idea to bring Orang Kurang Upaya (OKU)s up the mountain came about after another Mount Kinabalu climb in January to raise money for the eradication of polio.

“Among the climbers were former Tourism Minister Tan Sri Abdul Kadir Sheikh Fadzir. We were inspired by how a 72-year-old could scale the highest peak in South-East Asia to raise funds,” said Lim during a press conference at the One World Hotel in Petaling Jaya.

Datuk Jimmy Lim said that during a visit to a disabled home, he was approached by some of the residents who held a RM1 note in their hand. “They pointed to the back of the note and said to me, 'Can you bring us up this mountain?' "It took us a long time to answer them. When we saw that not enough is being done to highlight the lack of opportunities for the disabled, we decided to undertake the project," said Lim.

Seasoned climber Rotarian Ong Hock Siew, 61, who would be climbing the mountain for the 60th time, was put in charge of assessing the participants. "We have to put them through a series of tests to assess their fitness, endurance and balance. After they are chosen, they have to go through intensive training to prepare themselves," he said. "Normal climbs would take two days but they were setting aside three days for the group" Ong added.

A total of 18 participants chosen for the climb are from The Spastic Children’s Association of Selangor and Federal Territory (SCAS & FT), Klang Handicapped and Disabled Home; Hopehaven Centre Melaka; and Malaysia Association for the Blind (MAB).

Blind singer Godfrey Ooi, 60, from the MAB, who performed a few songs at the launch, will also be joining the climb
