FusionExcel Long Drive Golf Challenge 2010 (Qualifying Round)

REPORT BY FE SPOKESMAN & INTERNATIONAL GOLF LONG DRIVE SPECIALIST JEAN DANIELS.

The first outdoor leg of the FusionExcel Long Drive Golf Challenge was held at the Cinta Sayang Resort on Saturday, 26th June 2010. It was one of the most successful events we have had and everyone had a great time. 5 categories competed for prizes at the Long Drive event: Open, Senior 45+, Super Senior 55+, Junior and Ladies. Most golfers first played in a 17 holes tournament which was fully booked and 35 golfers had to be turned away. Apologies to those that missed out but hopefully we can find a way to accommodate more golfers in the future.

After the 17 holes tournament there was putting, chipping and an extra hole in one competition. The Long Drive event started at 8 a.m. and went through until 5.15 p.m. In the Long Drive Super Senior, Rily Soon's 250 yard drive was the first name on top of the leader board and stayed there the whole day. The early morning competitors had a big advantage with a slight tail wind but later in the afternoon a slight breeze came up straight into the players’ faces, costing them at least 10 yards. By midday last year's finalist K. Gunalan was leading the open division with 286.3 yards. Leaders Junior Thinesh (238.5), Senior Chan Beng Thiam (264.3) and Lady Kalpana (233.5) set competitive distances that were too tough to beat. At 2 p.m. we kicked off the putting and pitching competitions which were well supported by those afraid to compete in the long drive. We also had a special hole in one competition.

At the registration booth Presidential Directors Fu Fon Suong, Gan Say Beng and Antony Ooi did demonstration and sold Quantum Pendants to competitors and visitors. At 4.45 p.m. we had to call last registration for the Long Drive with many golfers still queuing to compete. At 4.50 p.m. previous year's Long drive winner Rizam Ali stepped up and on his last ball took the open trophy by a narrow 0.2 yard lead. Long Drive tip for outdoor qualifying: make sure you try out the conditions in the morning as they can change during the afternoon. 300 yards in the morning can become 280 in the afternoon due to weather changes. At 5.30 p.m. Jean Daniels entertained the crowd with his famous trick show and amazing trick shots. As usual all the competitors experienced the thrill of Long Drive. It’s all about controlling your nerves. To all the qualifiers, see you in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

At the dinner function FE spokesman Jean Daniels and Presidential Director Antony Ooi did demonstrations to all the participants. Presidential Director Antony Ooi also explained the benefits of the different FE products. At the dinner function FE had a booth displaying all the products and Presidential Directors Gan Say Beng and Antony Ooi explain the marketing plan to all interested. Thanks again to our main sponsors FusionExcel, Krankgolf, JD427 and Srixon. A special thanks to Cinta Sayang Resort and their staff for putting together a fantastic event.
